BENITO VERTULLO

ABOUT ME

Benito Vertullo, also known by his stage name Benny El Beni, was born in Naples and lived until the age of 5 in Villamaina, a small village in the province of Avellino.
He currently resides in Fondi, where he has his operational base, but he is always travelling around Italy and the world.
He is a digital photographer, writer and publisher, event organizer, full-fledged cultural promoter, and is passionate about travel, archaeology, mythology and much more.
His story began more than 30 years ago as a petty officer of the Italian Navy with the qualification of Signaller, responsible for route mapping and updating nautical documents along with the service of signals on board and on land, and an additional special task of ASC (Acceptance, Sorting and Control of messages). During that period, he bought a Canon AE1 Reflex in the free port of Hamburg.
A lover of travel and postcards, he began to deepen his interest in photography and started creating travel guides. But his thirst for culture and art introduced him to many other interests and stories to tell.
Today, he is looking to venture into the world of NFT marketing and more.

WHAT I DO

FROM THE ISLAND OF PONZA TO MEFITE

In the initial phase of his career, stays on the island of Ponza allowed him to experiment with his artistic flair and create highly prized guides and maps which received excellent critical acclaim.
Today, his art has transitioned into the digital sector with the creation of eBooks featuring various artists who express themselves through their creations.
Always in search of new expressive tools, he experiments with cutting-edge techniques often demanded in group exhibitions and vernissages throughout Italy.
Until meeting with the Mefite of Rocca San Felice, a town that has become famous in recent years because it hosts a small lake of sulfur origin known to Virgil, who spoke of its powerful force. Here, in fact, there are gaseous emissions of carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid causing the water to boil in a non-volcanic area. The vegetation in the immediate vicinity is absent and under particular climatic conditions, the emissions can be lethal.
In one of his most important works, Benito offers us a shot taken with a very brief shutter speed, specifically 1/4000 of a second, which captures this phenomenon. Here reside the Osco Rabel and many projects to enhance the area.
BENNYVISYON@
The digital photographic technique known as Bennyvisyon@ was developed between 2021/23 by the enterprising photographer Benito Vertullo as an absolute innovation in the field of photography. He desired (and strongly insisted on) creating a new interpretation of reality by merging several photos together in the same instant and space with individual and subjective movement. This allows for the fusion of the chromatic energies of the same viewpoint and the skillful and astonishing transformations of the subjects′ physiognomies. Vertullo believes that this peculiar space-visionary technique is important in creating and interpreting a new amalgamation of energies between the location and the subjects of the scene, thus completely transforming what is seen and creating an impressively different vision. This is the basic concept of Bennyvisyon@. The viewer can also search for personal signals or suggestions valid only for themselves in the images because the real physiognomies have been changed. Thus, each person, with their soul, culture, sensitivities, and consciousness, can perceive in Bennyvisyon@ something that another person cannot see. Essentially, no one sees what other viewers see. Personal emotions, stories, and experiences play a decisive role with Bennyvisyon@. Vertullo has developed two techniques/procedures related to the aforementioned photographic technique, namely:
  • Mode with a static camera on a tripod: only things and people move to merge the face(s) within the frame (Bennyvisyon "In");
  • "Evolution" mode with a dynamic mobile camera on a tripod: it transforms what′s around the frame by "immersing" into space, allowing the viewer to feel all the energy of the frame by merging the subject with the frame itself. This system was first experimented with in 2022 (Bennyvisyon "Out").
The mode with a mobile camera was successfully experimented with in 2023 in Barcelona on the occasion of Vertullo′s visit to the Marc Chagall exhibition.

TRIPS

Benito Vertullo′s work involves a constant figurative exploration into the worlds of art and landscape, expressed through both photography and video. During his Xoaniani journeys (the xoanon being an ancient wooden cultural image that links the island of Ponza to the Mefite of Rocca San Felice), he sets out completely free, going wherever he feels compelled.

The destination isn′t even of interest. The important thing is to go, to live the journey. To let oneself be carried along by the places and territories. A butterfly′s flutter, simply. A feather in the wind.
